HOLY MOTHER OF CHRIST! A DD?! I feel like jumping off the window of excitement after I finish off my CAPS LOCK BUTTON!!! Thank you so much `Gwendolyn12 for suggesting it and also thank you very much `WildCharmander for featuring it! I'll always be grateful for what you've done for me today. May God bless you all!
After 6 days (without the breaks) of intense work I finally managed to finish this. The .psd had over 250 layers, but then it got corrupted and I couldn't continue it. Don't ask me how I managed to continue working on it, cuz it's long goddamn story. xD
I hope you guys enjoy this piece, which I think is my best till now!
The Star was made with the help of =kabocha's star brushes. ([link]

Holy Shih Tzu Puppies! I just came across this artist due to llama, praise Llama God (that's why I drew Llama God), ....*lol I will have no problem saying more than 100 words....* Anyway... wow. I just came across this artist, saw that you are 15 YEARS OLD! I looked through your gallery, I have to say... simply amazing, you sir have an excellent career in art awaiting you my friend. But on to this deviation, my god, what CAN'T I say about it... but here we go... Watch as I dive into the 360 dimensions this picture has stored in its existence, it definitely has portals to other worlds, I could grab my controller for my PC and put this picture on full screen and have a blast all day. It is funny because I just got done doing a Mario deviation so yeah... I will have fun critiquing this one. You have a HELL of a talent.
Anyway here we go, to every character morphed strategically in this picture, the line art isn't just line art, the colors play out line art just as much as anything, the coloring is just as amazing as the lines. Superb job on making an abstract Mario mix. To ME... I don't know if the artist did this on PURPOSE or what... but to ME, this picture shows the development of Mario and the very essence of video games themselves. Panning from left to right, you see that it starts with basic shapes, we all remember those shapes back then, me being 25 years old, I grew up on these games. You have the basic square, pixel type art, though of course it is done in an up to date fashion, it still shows the essence of where the game began, in the Mario World of PIXELS.
As the picture progresses, you see a humor and comedy applied to the characters like Luigi, which displays the artists self interests in anime since its obviously anime inspired in the style of art. Once again you see a progression as the pixels now are polygon art like the star over Luigi which is from Mario 64.
Following, you see yet ANOTHER progression as Mario starts very small like a little baby, then he eats a mushroom and becomes a man, then he eats some crazy mutant plant, and the artists depicts the outcome of Mario eating things he shouldn't and becoming a massive maniacal monster that is on crazy substances and stabs goombas in the eye with his thumbs, crushes turtles and spit fire and flames and he chokes plants whilst doing so. He also is invincible because he has a layer of psychedelic color around him.
As the picture goes it becomes more intricate and complex just as graphics, games, systems and mario has. Also as it pans to the right you see the transition from the side of good, to the side of evil which would be Bowser. Bowsers side has a more darker feel to it. Again a very anime-like feel to the art technique itself, but also very unique, especially with the other characters further to the left and all through the picture really, very unique style.
The imagination in this picture is phenomenal, the attention to detail is obviously painstaking and done with a passion for art. The pipes have other worlds in them, bombs are uniquely done, as is the ghost and toadstool guy.
Every character in this picture has its own atmosphere and style to it, yet with all the differences, the styles were cleverly used, like Mario becoming a flame spitting monster, lol, I never thought of it that way but its hilarious and the picture if fantastically done. Every single thing has its own detail and every detail has its purpose and this picture is fantastic, you have to really look at it for a while as I have while writing this to really appreciate it.
It wow'd me when I laid eyes on it, and as far as art goes, I haven't seen much that has impressed me personally as much as this has.... AND this is just ONE of this artists deviations. Someone needs to find this artist fast because whoever or whatever company discovers you first... they are LUCKY because you have a very unique talent, an AMAZING talent, and its mind boggling to ME that you're 15 (if I read correctly) so your artwork still has TONS of time to improve which, I don't see how art could get any better than this.
Great job, this is daily deviation material, this is amazing, it was a pleasure critiquing it and thank YOU for sharing it and doing it, its the art that makes any other artist jealous lol. FANTASTIC job and 5 stars on all aspects, end of story.
Not that my critique is necessary at all, since the above user already gave the perfect one, but I need to have a total HUGE fangasm over this delight without seeming like I'm flooding the page so here it is.
Let me begin by saying this DA WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, IT TOOK YOU AN ENTIRE YEAR TO GRANT THIS PIECE THE TITLE OF DD?! UNFORGIVABLE!
When I first saw this piece the thing that grabbed my attention was the Goomba, it's depiction here is sheer genius; those things are a lot more deadly than they look but here you get a taste of just how vile they are. The detail of the hair is simply phenomenal and makes me love it so. Even the saliva and...boogers? (I don't know the scientific term for them, embarrassingly enough) Look so gross and together they form the perfect depiction of what a goomba really is. And finally the use of shadowing is just icing on the cake.
The second thing that really jumped out at me was Bowser and he's all the way at the back so that's saying something. Those gritty teeth, those deep red eyes, those scruffy eyebrows and hair, all give us the pleasure of witnessing arguably Nintendo's greatest villain and why he deserves that title, in a way his cartoonish appearance in the official merchandise doesn't allow. Staring at him for a long time just gives me goosebumps.
Now on to Mario, Luigi and Peach. I love absolutely love the portrayal of our mighty hero, withholding a goomba, grappling a piranha, dodging a bullet bill he can do it all! It's all done in such fine detail, and in a way that looks fantastic. (I also find it quite funny how he looks like Porky from the Mother series XD)
Peach (forgive my hormonal teenage/crazy fanboyish mind here) looks incredibly beautiful and stunning! She makes my heart race just looking at her. What stands out is her hair, those wonderful gold locks partnered, with depth increasing shadowing, only Rapunzel could possibly compare to this princess. The tears that flow from here eyes represent the trauma this poor maiden has been put through over the years, a strong woman she is, but is hardly ever depicted as. I've fallen in love with the artist's portrayal of her, ah Peach...if only we could be...
Ahaha and Luigi, the poor guy always gets the short end of the stick, cowardly and more weak compared to his older twin brother, Nintendo loves to play this for comic affect. And I simply cannot believe AW08 picked up and the comic effect of Luigi's frailty and made his tears look more cartoony, while Peach's are realistic because her suffering is traumatizing. That was a superb detail that just hit me as I was writing this paragraph. I'm in awe of that level of genius. Well done!
This is ultimately a piece that perfectly shows Nintendo's most famous franchise in a more mature, dark way that is masked by the cartoony looks of the official games. Every character's personality and history is exemplified here, and nothing could possibly be better than what I've seen here, there is no room for improvement. Hats off to you AW08!
