HOLY MOTHER OF CHRIST! A DD?! I feel like jumping off the window of excitement after I finish off my CAPS LOCK BUTTON!!! Thank you so much `Gwendolyn12 for suggesting it and also thank you very much `WildCharmander for featuring it! I'll always be grateful for what you've done for me today. May God bless you all!
After 6 days (without the breaks) of intense work I finally managed to finish this. The .psd had over 250 layers, but then it got corrupted and I couldn't continue it. Don't ask me how I managed to continue working on it, cuz it's long goddamn story. xD
I hope you guys enjoy this piece, which I think is my best till now!
The Star was made with the help of =kabocha's star brushes. ([link]
For the bush behind Yoshi I used the wonderful tutorial of *Ichi-14 ([link]
that is honestly so incredible that if i look at it for more than ten seconds i will crap a castle. with seven princesses in it. This is an incredible mural, but can be confusing for non hardcore gamers. for example, who's face is that in the top middle? Is it in mario? Otherwise, this is amazing and slightly creepy. Good work, congrats on being a daily deviation, and eat some mushrooms, because it is a me! out of curiosity, what is your favorite part of this insanely epic deviation of epicness? Personally, i love the nerd lakitu and the bob-omb.
Not that my critique is necessary at all, since the above user already gave the perfect one, but I need to have a total HUGE fangasm over this delight without seeming like I'm flooding the page so here it is.
Let me begin by saying this DA WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, IT TOOK YOU AN ENTIRE YEAR TO GRANT THIS PIECE THE TITLE OF DD?! UNFORGIVABLE!
When I first saw this piece the thing that grabbed my attention was the Goomba, it's depiction here is sheer genius; those things are a lot more deadly than they look but here you get a taste of just how vile they are. The detail of the hair is simply phenomenal and makes me love it so. Even the saliva and...boogers? (I don't know the scientific term for them, embarrassingly enough) Look so gross and together they form the perfect depiction of what a goomba really is. And finally the use of shadowing is just icing on the cake.
The second thing that really jumped out at me was Bowser and he's all the way at the back so that's saying something. Those gritty teeth, those deep red eyes, those scruffy eyebrows and hair, all give us the pleasure of witnessing arguably Nintendo's greatest villain and why he deserves that title, in a way his cartoonish appearance in the official merchandise doesn't allow. Staring at him for a long time just gives me goosebumps.
Now on to Mario, Luigi and Peach. I love absolutely love the portrayal of our mighty hero, withholding a goomba, grappling a piranha, dodging a bullet bill he can do it all! It's all done in such fine detail, and in a way that looks fantastic. (I also find it quite funny how he looks like Porky from the Mother series XD)
Peach (forgive my hormonal teenage/crazy fanboyish mind here) looks incredibly beautiful and stunning! She makes my heart race just looking at her. What stands out is her hair, those wonderful gold locks partnered, with depth increasing shadowing, only Rapunzel could possibly compare to this princess. The tears that flow from here eyes represent the trauma this poor maiden has been put through over the years, a strong woman she is, but is hardly ever depicted as. I've fallen in love with the artist's portrayal of her, ah Peach...if only we could be...
Ahaha and Luigi, the poor guy always gets the short end of the stick, cowardly and more weak compared to his older twin brother, Nintendo loves to play this for comic affect. And I simply cannot believe AW08 picked up and the comic effect of Luigi's frailty and made his tears look more cartoony, while Peach's are realistic because her suffering is traumatizing. That was a superb detail that just hit me as I was writing this paragraph. I'm in awe of that level of genius. Well done!
This is ultimately a piece that perfectly shows Nintendo's most famous franchise in a more mature, dark way that is masked by the cartoony looks of the official games. Every character's personality and history is exemplified here, and nothing could possibly be better than what I've seen here, there is no room for improvement. Hats off to you AW08!
